Besan Cheela Recipe

Besan cheela is one of the quick breakfast or brunch or evening snack one can make.you just need to mix everything and prepare the cheela. These besan ka cheelas also make for a healthy tiffin box snack.

Besan ka cheela are protein packed, taste delicious & are super quick to make. If you want, you can even pack this Cheela for lunch in your children school tiffin along with sweet chutney or apple jam.

BESAN CHEELA RECIPE

Ingredients

  • 1 cup besan/gram flour
  • 1/4 cup onion finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup tomato finely chopped
  • 2 green chillies finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp coriander leaves finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp ginger grated
  • 1/2 tsp carom seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/8 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 cup water (approx)
  • Oil as per requirement

Instructions

preparing besan chilla batter:

  • Collect all the required ingredients.
  • Take besan in a mixing bowl.
  • Add salt, ajwain, red chili powder, and turmeric powder.
  • Mix everything well.
  • Add 1/2 cup water.
  • With a wired whisk begin to mix everything. If the batter looks thick, then add 1 to 3 tbsp more water. Depending on the quality and texture of besan, addition of water will be more or less.
  • Now add chopped onion, tomato, green chili, coriander leaves, and grated ginger.
  • Mix with the help of whisk to form a smooth flowing consistency in the batter. Break lumps if any while mixing batter.

making besan cheela :

  • Heat a tawa or a flat pan on a low flame. you can use an iron tawa or a non-stick pan. If using an iron griddle or tawa, then spread a bit of oil on the tawa.
  • Let the pan become medium hot and then lower the flame, and take a ladle full of the batter and pour on the pan.
  • Gently with the back of the ladle, begin to spread the batter. Spread lightly and gently so that the cheela does not break.
  • Cook the Cheela till the upper layer changes its color.
  • Then pour 1/2 to 1 tsp oil on the cheela at the edges and all around.
  • Continue to cook till the base gets light golden.
  • Now flip it with the help of a wooden spatula, and cook on the other side also.
  • Cook this side till you see brown spots on the besan chilla.
  • Remove it to a plate and repeat the same for the rest of the besan cheela.
  • Serve besan chilla plain or with green chutney or any chutney of your choice.

Notes

  • You can add vegetables like grated carrot, chopped spinach etc. according to your taste to the Cheela.
  • If you are not very fond of vegetables, then you can prepare a plain cheela of besan. Put green and red chili according to your taste. Plain Besan Cheela is good in taste too and quick to cook.
  • Adjust the spices as per your preference.
  • Spread the batter on the pan only when it is properly heated because if the pan is not fully heated the batter may stick to it.
  • Cook the Cheela at a low flame. On a medium flame, the cheela will blacken very soon without getting properly cooked.
  • For small kids, skip the green chilies and red chili powder.
