Bread Chum Chum(or cham cham): is a very unique & tasty Diwali sweet recipe. It is also easiest and a quick alternative to the bread rasogullas. Chum Chum prepared with bread and milk are as delicious as rasogullas prepared with cottage cheese.

Chum chum has been a traditional sweet recipe from Bengal. Here we make it with a slight variation and prepare sumptuous bread chum chum. I am sure this recipe will satisfy all your sweet cravings. You can make it for a party, gathering or any occasion. Make it anytime and serve it, your friends and family will relish this homemade recipe.

All you need are basic ingredients like bread, mawa, milk, and sugar. These devouring chum chums keep good in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days. Very unique sweet recipe of bread. Make it for any occasion or get together and get compliments from all.

Ingredients
  

  • 6 Bread slices (edges cut)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 sugar
  • 1/4 cup dessicated coconut
  • 1/4 cup mawa/khoya
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp desi ghee
  • 1 tbsp tutti frutti
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions
 

Preparation of bread chum chum:

  • Collect all the required ingredients.
  • Crumble the bread pieces. Clamp whole bread. Keep it aside.
  • Further, take a pan add milk and bring the milk to a boil on high flame.
  • When the milk begins to boil, adjust the flame to medium heat. Pour the crumble bread in a stream with one hand and constantly stir in the milk with the other hand. This is done to prevent any lumps.
  • Stir it continuously to avoid lumps.
  • When the bread absorbs milk, lower the flame and continue to cook for 1-2 minute.
  • When the mixture becomes more thick, add 2 tbsp dessicated coconut and again continue to cook and stir the mixture till it dries.
  • Now add 1/2 tsp ghee and mix it. You will see that the mixture automatically binds together and starts leaving the pan.
  • Keep stirring to prevent burning at the bottom. Turn off the flame and keep it aside so that it is little cool down.
  • Take a vessel for syrup, add sugar and 1/2 cup of water and put it on the gas. Let the syrup be cooked until the sugar dissolves.
  • Now we need to cook it on medium flame until it becomes slightly thick. It may take 2-3 minutes. We are making just the simple syrup, no looking for any string consistency.
  • Sugar Syrup is ready. Set it aside
  • Now the mixture is slightly cool and the heat is tolerable to you, its ready to use.
  • Grease your hands with some ghee and start kneading the dough for a minute.
  • Knead bread dough till it turns out smooth without any cracks.
  •  Make small oval balls of bread and keep aside.
  • Likewise prepare all the bread oval balls.
  • Then again take sugar syrup put it on the gas and bring it a boil.
  • Once sugar start boiling, drop these oval balls to the prepared syrup.
  • Cover and boil for 2 minutes. You may check after a minute also.
  •  After 2 minutes, off the flame and keep it aside to cool down. With this the bread chum chum will soak the syrup and will turn sweet.
  • Now prepare the stuffing by mixing mawa and powdered sugar.
  • After mixing, make thin sticks from this mixture. Keep it aside.

Making Bread chum chum:

  • All preparations are now ready, we will start making bread chum chum.
  • Take cooked bread balls leaving behind the water.
  • Slit in between without cutting them into half.
  • Stuff them with prepared thin stick stuffing gently. Press gently so that it does not break.
  • Roll them in desiccated coconut.
  • Garnish with tutti frutti or dry fruits of your choice.
  • Serve bread chum chum recipe immediately or store in the refrigerator.

recipe notes for bread cham cham :

  • These devouring chum chums keep good in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.
  • Use readymade khoya instead of preparing it at home.
  • Garnish with dry fruits to make it more healthy and attractive.
  • Stuffing is optional, chum chum can also be eaten rolled with coconut.
  • Cool the cham cham completely before stuffing otherwise it will break into pieces while stuffing
  • Usually, mawa which is dried milk used for stuffing. However, you can stuff anything you want as long it’s sweet and tastes good.
  • Also, the balls should be added to the sugar syrup only when water comes to a boil.  the balls break when dropped in the sugar syrup
