Candied Fruit Cubes | how to use watermelon peel | Watermelon peels recipe with a detailed photo and video recipe, is a tasty, colorful and chewy confectionary item that is used in cakes, cookies ice creams, etc. It is made using waste Watermelon peels, which is cut into tiny cubes, blanched and again cooked in sugar water.

They are small-sized cubical titbits that have a fruity and sweet taste. They are available in mixed colors, like red, yellow, green and orange. Colour is added, and it is set aside for a day. It is then spread out and dried for 6 to  9 hours.

Kids love candies and it can be added to any dish, be it a bun or a dosa, to make it attractive to kids. It is also used in sweet paans or as a topping for ice-creams, sundaes etc. Candied Fruit Cubes should ideally be used in combination with raisins, currants, apricots, prunes, dates, and figs.

Furthermore, some easy and important tips and suggestion while preparing the candied fruit cubes recipe. Firstly, I have added artificial colors to get a bright and attractive color but does not have any influence on the taste. Hence if you do not wish to use the same, it can be safely ignored. Alternatively, you can use natural colours like saffron, turmeric or even beetroot juice. Secondly, the size of candied fruit cubes is open-ended and hence you can cut the papaya into a desired shape and size. Lastly, refrigerate and store these in an airtight container or sealed polythene bag for longer shelf life.

Ingredients

  • 8 Watermelon Slices
  • 300 gms Sugar Granules
  • 5 cup Water
  • 4-5 drops Vanilla Essence
  • 4 drops Food colour red yellow,green

Instructions

  • Collect all the required ingredients.
  • Firstly, take watermelon waste slices and peel the skin of it.
  • Cut the watermelon slices into small cubes.
  • Boil the 2 cups water in a pan.
  • Add the watermelon cubes, cover it and boil for 5 minutes on high flame.
  • Cook until the cubes turn into semi-transparent.
  • Drain off the water and keep aside.
  • Now in the same pan take sugar and 3 cup water and let it boil till sugar completely melts.
  • Further, add semi cooked raw watermelon cubes and stir.
  • Boil for 10 minutes on high flame stirring in between. Make sure to check for sugar syrup turns sticky and papaya to turn soft yet retain its shape.
  • Turn off the flame and let it cool down slightly.
  • After cooling down, add 4-5 drops vanilla extract. Mix well.
  • Divide the cooked watermelon cubes into 4 parts along with sugar syrup.
  • Add a pinch of each color in 4 different bowls filled with syrup. Mix well.
  • Allow to soak for 12 hours or a day making sure watermelon cubes absorbs all the colour.
  • Take out the watermelon cubes from syrup and strain them properly. Spread those papaya cubes over a wire net placed on top of a plate. Let them dry till the stickiness is totally absorbed.
  • Once the candies dries off completely it will not be sticky. Mix the colours together.
  • Finally, Candied fruit cubes is ready to consume immediately or refrigerate for later use.

Notes

  • Adding colors to candied fruit cubes is optional, but it is preferable to add different colors since it looks more attractive.
  • For longer use of candied fruit cubes, always try to dry completely the colored cubes before refrigerating.
  • Additionally, cut the cubes of watermelon into small cubes for uniform cooking.
  • Candied fruit cubes is often made in three colors .i.e. red, green and yellow. You can use any food color which is available with you for making candies
  • Soaking time of watermelon cubes may take around 12-24 hrs. This way they get sweet & colored properly.
  • Allow candied fruit cubes to dry completely and then keep it refrigerated if you want to use for long time.

How To Make Candied Fruit Cubes (Step By Step Instructions With Photos) :
