PIZZA SAUCE RECIPE

Homemade pizza sauce is not fresh and delicious but is also without any preservatives. Here is the quick and easy recipe to make it at home.

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe tomatoes(400 gms)
  • 1/2 cup onion chopped
  • 2 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp chili flakes
  • 1/2 tsp basil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp oregano

Instructions

  • Collect all the required ingredients.
  • Chop the tomatoes into halves.
  • Heat 2 tbsp oil in a nonstick or heavy bottomed pan.
  • Add onions till they change color or they turn slightly golden brown on low flame.
  • Then add chili flakes, basil, and oregano.
  • Stir it well for a minute so that herbs gives good aroma to the sauce.
  • Now after a minute, place chopped tomatoes in the oil.
  • Stir it and coat the tomatoes completely with oil.
  • Cover it and cook at least for 6-7 minutes on low flame.
  • After 6 minutes, open the lid and you will notice how the skin of tomatoes get started to release.
  • Start removing the skin of tomatoes using spoon and spatula (removing the skin is totally optional).
  • Keep cooking the tomatoes and start breaking it
  • Mash in between so that it turns mushy soon.
  • Add sugar, salt, and red chili powder.
  • Again give it a good mix.
  • Cover and simmer the sauce for at least 5 minutes or till the sauce turns thick.
  • You can see sauce comes to a boil, so add tomato ketchup and butter.
  • Mix it well.
  • Now stir it continuously for 3-4 minutes on medium flame till the sauce starts leaving the pan and the extra water evaporates from the sauce.
  • After 3 minutes, turn off the flame and let the sauce cool completely before grinding it.
  • Once cooled, transfer the sauce into the mixer and blend it for 5-6 seconds only.
  • Pizza sauce is ready to prepare pizzas or pasta. Use the pizza sauce as a topping on pizzas or store in a bowl or in a small jar.

recipe notes:

  • The pizza sauce may take 15-20 minutes but the slow cooking of pizza sauce brings the best flavor in it.
  • Do not turn the sauce into a paste just grind it coarsely.
  • Adding tomato sauce gives a nice texture to pizza sauce.
  • Use always red ripe tomatoes for sauce. It would give a good color and sweet taste to the sauce.
  • Use bright red tomatoes, else sauce will not be of bright color.
  • Store the sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for long shelf life.
  • To make sauce spicier add green chili.
  • If you like to add garlic then take 10-12 finely chopped onion and when the oil is hot saute the garlic until the change in color. Rest follow the same procedure.
