Hyderabadi Toast Recipe

Hyderabadi Toast is a chatpata chaat like open toast. Deep fried bread is layered with cooked and spiced potatoes, chutneys and sev. It’s crunchy and delicious.

This is the most popular and loved street food of Hyderabad.

This is kind of open sandwich. As the potato stuffing is spread on bread slice and then it is shallow fried and finally, it is topped with green chutney, garlic chutney, tamarind chutney, chopped onion and lots of sev.

HYDERABADI TOAST RECIPE

Hyderabadi Toast is a chatpata chaat like open toast. Deep fried bread is layered with cooked and spiced potatoes, chutneys and sev.

Ingredients

for potato stuffing :

  • 2 cup boiled and mashed potatoes
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala powder
  • A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves finely chopped

for maida flour paste :

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (maida)
  • 3 tbsp rice flour
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Use water as required

for aloo toast :

Instructions

preparing the potato stuffing :

  • Collect all the required ingredients.
  • Take a mixing bowl and add boiled and mashed potatoes in it.
  • Then add asafoetida, red chilli powder, garam masala,and salt to taste.
  • Also, add coriander leaves.
  • Mix it well.
  • Potato mixture is ready. Keep aside.

preparing the maida flour paste:

  • In a wide and deep bowl, add maida and rice flour.
  • Then add turmeric powder and salt.
  • Use water as required to form a batter.
  • With a wired whisk begin to mix everything. If the batter looks thick, then add 1 to 3 tbsp more water. Depending on the texture you are looking for, the addition of water will be more or less.
  • Make a smooth flowing consistency and the batter should neither be thick nor thin. Break lumps if any while mixing batter.

frying the bread aloo toast :

  • Take a bread slice and evenly apply a sufficient amount of the prepared potato mixture on one side of the bread slice.
  • Heat up oil to deep fry on medium heat.
  • Coat the potato smeared side with a maida flour slurry.
  • Put the bread onto the oil in a way that the part on which the mixture is applied is fried first.
  • Deep fry till it turns golden brown and crispy from both sides on medium flame.
  • Take it out to an absorbent kitchen paper.

assembling the hyderabadi toast :

  • When they are still hot or warm, you need to serve them. Take all the chutneys, chopped onion, and sev on your work surface. 
  • Take the toast in a serving plate.
  • Slice the hyderabadi aloo toast diagonally.
  • Smear green chutney, tamarind chutney,and red chutney.
  • Then sprinkle some chopped onions.
  • Finally top up with sev and chopped coriander leaves.
  • Serve immediately. yummy and delicious hyderabadi aloo toast.

How To Make Hyderabadi Toast (Step By Step Instructions With Photos) :

Recipe Notes :

  • Adjust the spices as per your preference.
  • Shallow fry the toast on tawa with few drops of oil if you are health conscious.
  • Use wholemeal bread instead of white bread to make healthy toast.
  • You can add vegetables like cabbage, carrot, beans or peas to the stuffing to make it healthy.
  • Here I have rice flour instead of corn flour, you can use any flour which is easily available.
  • Adjust chutney according to your taste too.
  • Adding lots of sev enhances the flavor and gives nice crisp to the Hyderabadi toast
  • Serve Hyderabadi toast immediately after preparing it.
