Kaju Katli without Kaju Recipe | Indian sweet | kaju katli using condensed milk

Kaju Katli is a traditional Indian sweet that can be prepared at home using some easily available ingredients in your kitchen. These kaju katli are the way they are actually meant to be – thin, smooth, melt in the mouth slices of cashew goodness.

Traditionally katli’s are prepared from cashew powder (kaju), however, this recipe is an instant version prepared from condensed milk. Perhaps this recipe may have similar attributes to kaju katli, but certainly much easier and hassle-free.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cup Milk powder
  • 400 gms/1 tin Condensed milk
  • 1 tbsp pure desi ghee
  • 4-5 Silver leaf chandi ka vrak

Instructions
 

  • Collect all the required ingredients.
  • In a thick bottomed pan or a nonstick pan heat ghee till it melts.
  • Once ghee melts, lower the flame and add milk powder.
  • Roast it for 2-3 minutes. Keep in mind that you have stir continuously otherwise the milk powder will start burning.
  • After 3 minutes, add condensed milk.
  • Mix properly, keeping the flame on low and keep stirring the mixture continuously so that no lump occurs in it.
  • Mix continuously, till the milkmaid melts completely.
  • Further keep stirring keeping the flame on low till the mixture thickens.
  • The mixture thickens and starts to separate from the pan.
  • Switch off the flame and cool it down for 5 mins.
  • Place a butter paper/poythene sheet on the rolling board. Apply some ghee on the polythene sheet.
  • Place the dough mixture over it.
  • Place a polythene sheet on top and flatten the dough using a rolling pin, roll gently the dough from all sides till you reach a thickness of 3-5 mm in the dough.
  • Once rolled out completely, garnish with silver leaf (vark).
  • Cut it into square shape, diamond shape or any desired shape katlis. Scrape off the uneven edges and you can have them.
  • Remove and arrange kaju katli on a plate.
  • Serve this super delicious and mouth-drooling kaju katli as it is as a dessert or have it whenever you crave for something sweet.

how to make kaju katli ( Step by step directions with photos) :

1. Collect all the required ingredients.

14. Once rolled out completely, garnish with silver leaf (vark).

recipe notes :

  • I have used condensed milk or milkmaid which already have sugar content in it. Alternatively, use store-bought evaporated milk to control the sugar or sweet level.
  • Do not overcook the mixture otherwise, it will make katli chewy and sticky.
  • Cook the kaju katli on low flame, else there are chances for kaju katli to burn.
  • Kaju katli turns to be slightly chewy when warm. Once cooled down, it turns to be soft and tasty.
