Masala Papad is an easy recipe which can be tried by even kids. You can either deep fry papad or roast on stove top for low calorie version.

Masala Papad makes a great party appetizer or evening snacks which you can prepare in less than 10 minutes. It’s a perfect munching option when you want to pair your drink with something crispy and delicious. 

 You can customize this recipe by adding more toppings of your choice. Make sure that the ingredients that you use for toppings are fresh, otherwise they will make the papads soggy.

Ingredients

for topping :

  • ¼ cup onion finely chopped
  • ¼ cup tomato finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves finely chopped
  • 2 green chillies finely chopped
  • ¼ tsp black salt
  • ¼ tsp red chilli powder
  • ¼ tsp roasted cumin powder
  • ¼ tsp chaat masala
  • ½ lemon

other ingredients :

  • 4 medium sized urad dal papads
  • Oil for frying
  • ¼ cup nylon sev

Instructions

frying the papads :

  • Collect all the required ingredients.
  • Take the papads. You can take large papads or medium ones. Here I have used urad dal papad of lijjat brand.
  • Cut into 4 equal parts. This is optional, you can keep as it is.
  • Heat oil for deep frying in a pan or kadai.
  • Slide the papad into the medium hot oil.
  • Fry for some seconds till the papad is crisp.
  • With a tong, remove the fried papad from the oil.
  • Place the fried papads on a plate and fry rest of the papad like this. Keep it aside.

preparing the topping :

  • In a mixing bow, add finely chopped onion and tomato.
  • Now add finely chopped green chilli and coriander leaves.
  • Then add black salt, red chilli powder, roasted cumin powder, and chat masala.
  • Squeeze some lemon juice.
  • Mix it well and keep aside.

making masala papad :

  • To serve, place the papad on a plate.
  • Spread the prepared onion tomato topping evenly.
  • Then sprinkle some nylon sev n top of the papad.
  • Serve masala papad immediately or else they turn soggy.

Notes

  • You can toast papads and keep it in a cover, keep refrigerated until use.
  • Always chop everything freshly when you are going to serve.
  • Serve immediately as you spread the onion tomato mixture.
  • Carefully handle the papad as it might break easily.
  • You can use the tiny mini papad and serve as cocktail masala papads.
  • To add more nutritional value, try adding grated carrot, beetroot or raw mango.
  • You can also add cooked sprouts to make it wholesome.

frying the papads :
