Tawa pizza recipe without cheese, yes now you can make your favourite pizza in without cheese itself. This pizza recipe does not require yeast, no oven also isn’t that a good news ! This pizza is slightly different from simple pizza yet very delicious.

This pan pizza has a soft inside with crispy edges, though it doesn’t give the same texture as pizza made with oven, am sure you will not complain much.

While pizza purists might be aghast at the idea of a pizza without cheese, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by this tasty pizza recipe. Skipping the traditional cheese layer allows the veggies and other flavors to stand out.

Ingredients

for pizza dough :

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour atta
  • 2 tbsp suji/ semolina
  • ¼ cup sour curd
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 medium sized potato boiled
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar

for pizza sauce :

  • ½ cup onion finely chopped
  • ½ cup tomato finely chopped
  • 2 green chillies finely chopped
  • ½ tsp black pepper powder
  • 1 tsp powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil

for white sauce :

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp maida
  • milk
  • ¼ tsp black pepper powder
  • Salt to taste

other ingredients :

  • 1 cup veggies cubed onion, tomato,capsicum
  • 1 tsp chat masala
  • 3-4 tsp oil
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 1 tsp oregano

Instructions

kneading the dough for pizza :

  • Collect all the required ingredients.
  • Take a bowl and add boiled potatoes.
  • Start mashing them using fork or potato masher.
  • Now add wheat flour, rava, powdered sugar and salt.
  • Then add oil and curd.
  • Mix well using your fingers.
  • Start adding milk little by little.
  • Knead the dough with the hand. The dough will leave the sides of the bowl but still will be a bit sticky.
  • Transfer to a clean board or kitchen slab.
  • Knead the dough with your hands and keep kneading it with the heels of your hands for 10-12 minutes, till the dough is soft and elastic.
  • Keep the dough in a large bowl and cover loosely with a kitchen napkin or towel for 15-20 minutes.

making pizza sauce :

  • In a pan or saucepan, heat 1 tbsp oil.
  • Add the finely chopped onions. I used my food processor to chop them really fine.
  • Saute them for 3-4 minutes on medium flame.
  • Then add chopped tomatoes. Again, I used my food processor to chop them really fine.
  • Stir and let the tomatoes cook for 5 minutes.
  • When the tomatoes are softened, add finely chopped green chilli.
  • Now add powdered sugar, salt, black pepper powder, and tomato ketchup.
  • Mix well and cook for a few more minutes on low flame.
  • Switch off the flame and let it cool down.
  • Once cooled, transfer the sauce into the mixer and blend it for 5-6 seconds only.
  • The pizza sauce is ready.

making white sauce :

  • Heat a pan or kadai. Set the flame to low.
  • Add 1 tbsp butter.
  • When the butter melts and starts to bubble, add maida. Do not brown the butter.
  • Stir the flour quickly as soon as you add it. Keep on stirring so that no lumps are formed.
  • Sauté the flour till you get a nice cooked aroma from the flour and a pale golden color. Make sure the color of the flour doesn’t change.
  • Keep the flame to the lowest and then pour 2/ cup milk in a gentle stream. Pour the milk with one hand and stir the sauce mixture with the other while stirring continuously.
  • Cook this until the sauce turns slightly thick. It will take around 3-4 minutes depending on the size and thickness of the pan.
  • Now add salt and black pepper powder.
  • Gently stir until the mixture reaches a thick sauce consistency.
  • When the mixture starts to coat the back of a spoon as shown in the picture here, it means that is has done.
  • The white sauce is ready.

making tawa pizza :

  • Again knead the dough lightly before using it and divide the dough into 3 parts.
  • Take one part and sprinkle some flour.
  • Roll it well between your palms and slightly flatten it.
  • Roll the dough to slightly thick or thin round pizza. Roll it slightly thicker than a chapati.
  • Then prick with centre of dough with the help of fork to prevent from fluffing up like chapati.
  • Heat a tawa or skillet. Carefully transfer the base to the skillet.
  • Simmer and cook for 3 mins.
  • When you see it has cooked well, flip it and continue to keep the flame low.
  • Add 1 tsp butter and spread well.
  • Again flip it.
  • When you see bubbles coming on it and the base has become golden, then flip and switch off the flame.
  • Now quickly spread the pizza sauce on this cooked side of the pizza.
  • Then spread white sauce over the pizza sauce generously leaving the sides slightly.
  • Sprinkle some chat masala over it.
  • Top up with the chopped veggies.
  • Brush the corners with some oil.
  • Turn on the flame, cover with a lid and let the veg pizza cook on a low flame.
  • Simmer for 8 minutes or till the base becomes golden and crisp completely.
  • Remove and sprinkle some oregano.
  • Cut into wedges.
  • Serve tawa pizza hot or warm with tomato ketchup.
