PAV SANDWICH RECIPE

Ingredients

for the stuffing :

  • 1 cup potato mashed
  • ¼ cup onion chopped
  • ¼ cup tomato chopped
  • ¼ cup capsicum chopped
  • 1 tbsp pav bhaji masala
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • ¼ cup water

for roasting the pav :

  • 2 pav or bread rolls
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves chopped
  • 1 tsp pav bhaji masala
  • 1 tbsp butter

for pav sandwich :

Instructions

preparing the stuffing for pav sandwich :

  • Collect all the required ingredients.
  • Heat 1 tsp butter in a pan.
  • Add chopped onions and stir well.
  • Saute the onions till they turn translucent or until they shrink and change its colour slightly.
  • Add tomato and salt.
  • Saute until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
  • Then add capsicum.
  • Stir and saute for 2 minutes.
  • Now add pav bhaji masala and 2 tbsp water.
  • Cook the masalas for a minute on the low flame.
  • Add boiled and mashed potatoes.
  • Mix until the masala is combined well.
  • Then add in lemon juice. Mix well.
  • The masala is now done. Switch off the flame and keep aside.

roasting the pav for pav sandwich :

  • Heat a non-stick tawa or pan and add 1 or 2 tsp of butter on it.
  • Once the butter melts a bit, add ½ tsp pav bhaji masala. You can even replace it with chat masala if you want.
  • Then add the chopped coriander leaves. It creates a fresh burst of flavors.
  • Mix well and sauté on a low- medium flame for a few seconds.
  • Slice the pav in half without cutting completely.
  • Place a slit pav in the pan and roll them on the masala.
  • Turn them and roll on the remaining leftover masala.
  • Roast till the masala coats the pav evenly from both the sides or till light golden or golden and crisp.

assembling and making pav sandwich :

  • Remove the toasted pav and place them on a clean dry surface or in a plate.
  • Spread some green or sandwich chutney on the both sides of the pav.
  • Take a portion of the prepared veggie mixture and place it on the pav.
  • Press and flatten the veggie mixture.
  • Then top with 1 onion slice and 2 tomato slice.
  • Sprinkle some chaat masala.
  • Cover with the remaining pav slice and press it gently.
  • Serve pav sandwich as soon as you assemble them with a side of coriander chutney or tomato ketchup. It tastes best when eaten hot and fresh.

Notes

  • Toasting the pav buns in butter will give a nice aroma to the Pav Sandwich so don’t skip that.
  • Add grated cheese along with stuffing to prepare cheesy masala pav recipe.
  • You can also use leftover pav bhaji instead of preparing it freshly.
  • If pav is not available you can prepare a sandwich using bread.
