Poha Rolls recipe with step by step photos and video recipe – are crispy and great as an appetizer, finger food for any gathering, and a tasty compliment for your breakfast or evening tea.

Poha rolls are crispy and tasty cylindrical rolls made using poha i.e. flattened rice and boiled potatoes. Crispy poha rolls have the bite of crispiness and kick of chaat masala, along with the freshness of green coriander and heat of green chillies.

Poha rolls can be served for breakfast or along with evening tea. This is an easy Indian snack recipe which can be prepared as appetizers too.  

Poha is one of the most preferred and light for stomach snack or breakfast. An easy dish to try at your kitchen with minimum ingredients.

POHA ROLLS RECIPE

Poha Roll are crispy and tasty cylindrical rolls made using poha i.e. flattened rice and boiled potatoes.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup thick poha (flattened rice)
  • 1 cup potato (boiled, peeled, and mashed)
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 2 green chillies
  • 3 tbsp coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes
  • 1 tsp chaat masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil as required for deep frying

Instructions

preparing the poha roll mixture :

  • Collect all the required ingredients.
  • Take 1 cup thick poha in a bowl.
  • Soak the poha in water just about covering them for 3 to 4 minutes to make it soft.
  • After 3-4 minutes, rinse it once or twice under running water.
  • Then using a strainer, drain all the water from the poha.
  • Poha should be mashable and slightly moist not too dry but there should be no water in them. Squeeze off the excess water, if any.
  • Transfer the washed poha into large mixing bowl.
  • Add mashed potato in it.
  • Then add salt, chaat masala, ginger paste, and chilli flakes.
  • Now add chopped green chillies and coriander leaves.
  • Mix everything very well.
  • Knead the mixture with hands and prepare it like dough.

  • Once the dough for the rolls is ready, then grease your hands for making the roll.
  • Take out a little dough from the bowl and make a ball from it.
  • Bind the mixture, press and give it a cylindrical shape.
  • Make small to medium rolls of mixture. The size of the rolls will depend as much as you want.
  • Keep them out in a plate.
  • Prepare rest of the rolls from the entire mixture in the same way.

frying poha rolls :

  • Take a non-stick kadai and add oil for deep frying. Let the oil get hot on medium heat.
  • When the oil becomes hot, add prepared poha rolls.
  • Allow the rolls to set their outer layer before flipping them.
  • Fry the poha rolls till they become crisp and light golden in color.
  • Continue to fry and turn over as required for uniform frying.
  • Stir occasionally and fry till the poha rolls look golden and crisp.
  • Once the rolls have desired color and texture, using a slotted spoon remove the fried poha roll.
  • Place the poha rolls on kitchen paper towels for extra oil to be absorbed.
  • Deep fry the rest of the poha rolls as well.
  • Serve poha roll hot with your favorite accompaniment like tomato sauce or green chutney.
