Rava Toast Recipe

Rava toast (sooji toast) is a perfect snack item to serve in the morning breakfast or as an afternoon tea time snack. It is also a bachelor’s recipe as it can be prepared in minutes with less ingredients. Moreover it can also be kids lunch box recipe breakfast and for lunch.

A mixture of semolina with finely chopped veggies is used as a topping on wheat bread slices, and the whole arrangement is toasted till perfectly crisp. A dash of cream lends a bit of creaminess to the recipe, and also helps roasting, which stays good in the dabba for over 4 hours. 

The sooji in the Rava toast recipe gives it a grainy texture and a crunchy feel to it. You couldn’t surely resist to munch on it.

RAVA TOAST RECIPE

Rava toast (sooji toast) is a perfect snack item to serve in the morning breakfast or as an afternoon tea time snack. It is also a bachelor’s recipe as it can be prepared in minutes with fewer ingredients.

Ingredients

for batter :

  • 1/4 cup Suji/Semolina/Rava
  • 1/4 cup cream or malai
  • 3 tbsp onion finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp capsicum finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp tomato finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp cucumber finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp carrot grated
  • 2 green chili finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp black pepper powder

for suji toast :

  • 4 white bread slices
  • Butter as required

Instructions

preparing the batter topping :

  • Collect all the required ingredients.
  • To make rava toast start with preparing the batter with semolina, cream, and veggies. Add all the vegetables such as carrot, cucumber, onion, tomato and capsicum in a bowl.
  • Further add coriander leaves, green chili, salt and black pepper powder.
  • Mix till all of it mixes well.
  • Now add suji and cream.
  • Mix all the ingredients well using a spoon to make the batter. Don’t add any water. It should be thick paste.
  • The batter is ready. Keep the batter aside.

making suji toast :

  • Take bread a slice and put 1 to 2 spoons of batter over the bread and spread rava-veggie mixture evenly with a spoon.
  • Heat a tava or frying pan. On a hot tava or griddle, add 1/2 tsp butter for toasting breads and grease it and let the tava heat for a while. Make sure you heat the tava to medium heat and keep the flame medium low.
  • Place the bread on the hot tava to roast. Roast the bread till it golden brown from below. The side with the paste/ batter should be downward.
  • Cook it till the veggies are lightly browned. Check the breads are golden brown from below or not.
  • Spread butter on the top of the bread.
  • Flip them and roast them till golden brown on other side as well. Move the toast a bit so as to roast it evenly from below.
  • Turn over and toast the bread on the other side. You can flip once or twice and cook more if required.
  • Transfer the rava toast to a plate and continue to making the rava toasts this way.
  • Crispy and tempting Rava toast is ready and cut the toast into triangular or rectangular pieces.
  • Serve the rava toast slices with green coriander chutney, tomato sauce or with any chutney of your choice.

How to make rava toast (Step by step directions with pictures) :

preparing the batter topping :

1.Collect all the required ingredients.

2. To make rava toast start with preparing the batter with semolina, cream, and veggies. Add all the vegetables such as carrot, cucumber, onion, tomato and capsicum in a bowl.

3. Further add coriander leaves, green chili, salt and black pepper powder.

4. Mix till all of it mixes well. 

5. Now add sooji and cream.

 6. Mix all the ingredients well using a spoon to make the batter. Don’t add any water. It should be thick paste.

7. The batter is ready. Keep the batter aside.

9. Crispy and tempting rava toast is ready and cut the toast into triangular or rectangular pieces.

10. Serve the rava toast slices with green coriander chutney, tomato sauce or with any chutney of your choice.

How To Make :

  • You can take white or brown bread as desired.
  • If desired you can make the toast without butter as well.
  • Add vegetables of your choice to the batter.
  • Spread rava batter on both sides to make it more tasty. however the toast might turn soggy slightly.
  • If making for kids skip or adjust the green chili.
  • Serve the rava toasts when they are hot as they will turn soggy when cools down.
  • Add a pinch of red chilli powder while preparing the rava-veggie mixture batter to get nice golden color of toast.
  • If you are preparing rava toasts in large quantity, don’t spread rava-veggie mixture on all the bread slices at the same time, as the bread slices will turn soggy. Just spread the mixture on 2-3 slices (depending on the size of tava) and while the first batch is cooking, spread the mixture on another 2-3 bread slices for next batch.
