Sandwich Masala recipe with step by step photos and video recipe – is a special spice mix powder which is sprinkled over Mumbai style sandwiches and gives them a very unique taste. 

The chatpata masala is a special spice powder used in preparing the Bombay sandwich makes it tastier. It is also important to add a generous amount of salts and amchur as shown here in order to get the intense flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 2 inch cinnamon stick
  • 1 tbsp black salt
  • 2 tsp dry mango powder

Instructions

  • Collect all the required ingredients.
  • Take whole spices (cumin seeds, fennel seeds, cloves, black peppercorns, and cinnamon stick) in a pan. Turn the heat on low-medium.
  • Dry roast them with stirring continuously. Roast it for about 5 minutes, or till you get a nice aroma of spices.
  • Turn off the flame.
  • Remove the spices to a plate. and let it cool down completely.
  • Once spices are cooled, take into the dry spice grinder or blender.
  • Also add along with black salt and dry mango powder.
  • Grind to make a smooth powder.
  • Sandwich masala is ready. Use it as required to sandwich and store remaining in airtight container.

Notes

  • Always use black salt for more authentic flavor.
  • Dry roast at low to medium flame to prevent burning of spices.
  • Store in an airtight container once the masala is cooled completely.
  • Adjust the spiciness by reducing the amount of black pepper.
  • It stays fresh for 7-8 months in an airtight container at room temperature. Always use a clean spoon (not wet) to get the powder out of the jar. Otherwise, it reduces the shelf life.
