- 1 cup Gram flour (besan)
- 4 slices white bread
- 1/2 cup onion finely chopped
- 1 green chili finely chopped
- 2 tbsp coriander leaves finely chopped
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper powder
- A pinch of asafoetida
- 1/2 tsp carom seeds (ajwain)
- 1/2 cup water
- oil for toasting as per requirement
Collect all the required ingredients.
In a large mixing bowl, add besan, salt, red chili powder, turmeric powder, black pepper powder, carom seeds, and asafoetida.
Mix it well.
Now add chopped onions, green chili, and coriander leaves. Combine well.
Now add enough water to make a semi thick batter.
Whisk to a medium consistency batter. there should be no lumps in the batter. Don't make the thin batter.
Heat 1 tbsp oil for frying in a tava or frying pan on the low medium flame.
Dip the bread slice in the batter. With your hands, coat the bread evenly with the batter from both sides.
Also, place the chopped onions on the bread slices with your hands. Don't keep the bread too long in the batter as then the slice breaks.
Place the batter coated bread slices on the tava.
When the base is cooked and browned, flip over and cook both sides till besan gets cooked completely and bread turns crisp.
Press gently, make sure besan is cooked completely. Remove and serve the besan toasts immediately.
Fry the remaining bread slices in the same way. you can add more oil if required while frying the remaining batch.
Besan Bread Toast makes a great evening snack for kids. Serve these bread besan toast plain or with tomato ketchup or coriander chutney.
